aText is completely broken on El Capitan and the developer has stated on their website that they have abandoned support for the App Store version and WILL NOT FIX IT. Do not buy this. You will be wasting your money.

Used to love this app - great time saver. Doesn’t work with El Capitan and the updating workaround is impossible. Very disappointed
This app simply is not reliable and the support is not forthcoming. I have tried to communicate with the developer, I have restarted and reinstalled, etc., to no avail. No reciprocity. Now, I’m out. I will invest in a more expensive app and stop wasting time with this one. What was supposed to have saved time has done just the opposite. I feel the money spent was wasted and feel ripped off. Oh, well.
This worked great, I had shortcuts and expansions, but it stopped working a while ago. Im currently on El Capitan and nothing expands. Judging by all the other 1 start reviews this product is now defunct and we were all jipped.
After updating from Apple Yosemity to ElCapitan the software no longer worked, I requested but never received info to re-install and no responses from the software maker. Horrible experience. I’d like to rate this as -5 but it only goes down to 1.
I used this for more than a year and recommended it to many people. But it doesnt work with El Capitan, and the developer’s work-around version doesn’t integrate as seamlessly with OSX as older versions did. It’s become less reliable and much more prone to problems. Sadly, I feel forced to look for a competitors product instead...
As other reviewers have mentioned, aText is now broken as of OSX Yosemite’s release last year. I waited a few months to see if the developer would update it, but they haven’t. Apparently they can’t justify the work they would need to put into updating it, but they should no longer sell the app for anything more than “free” on the App Store.
Each OS update brings an issue restoring aText and their support team is non-responsive.
Stopped working when I was promoted to download from the atext website. License didn’t transfer, and zero response from dev after several attempts to contact. Don’t waste your money.
This version of aText is not compatible with El Capitan. You need to go directly to the developer’s website and download the trial. From there you can migrate your app store license and carry on.
Great app, but back when i upgraded my OS it stopped working, and after trying endlessly I couldn’t transfer my license. I emailed for help but got no response. But since this app is valuable for my day-to-day, I ponied up another $5 to just buy it. I plain need this app. As of today my “trial” has ended. I have paid for this software twice and I don’t think I ever will again. Too bad because it works great, but there is no support. Seems almost like a scam.
I picked this software because I did not like the policies of the main competitor, who sell what I think is an expensive product then require repurchasing for every OS update. I thought this would be an alternative, but it seems every major OS update makes the software stop working, and El Capitan is apparently never going to be supported in the App Store version (I mean, it’s been over six months now). So, bought the software in August or September 2015 and got my shortcuts all set up. Mid-September, upate to El Capitan and the software, which I use constantly for work, doesn’t function. Follow instructions to download web version and “transfer” license. All is working OK. Several weeks later, I changed the hard drive on my computer, and had to go through the whole thing again. This morning (Feb. 15, 2016) I restarted my Mac, which had slowed to a crawl for some reason, and I get the notice that my trial period is up and I need to purchase a license. What the ^#$! ? I’ve been through the transfer from App Store routine *twice* and it apparently didn’t take. I bought this to make my work faster, not to futz around with copy protection on the utility software. *Fix the App Store version!* The only reason not to fix the App Store version is if the developer can’t be bothered *or* it’s doing something that is now against Apple’s policies (which do change) that the developer can’t fix.
The app does not work with El Capitan, and while the author has provided a workaround to help fix this, it seems that with the latest update of El Capitan, this work around no longer works. It’s a great tool, when it works. However when it stops, it really does mess things up. I just received the “trial expired” notice again, and this means that I can’t access the tool, nor can I access any of the shortcuts (which of course I need … murphy law, right). With no active updates happening since April 2015, it’s probably a good time to move onto something else.
Worked great for awhile, I had the same experience as another reviewer - I bought it last fall, got it all set up, then El Capitain update broke it. I followed the instructions 3 times to transfer the license, it worked again for awhile and now, all of a sudden Im getting the message that my trial period is up and I have to transfer the license. I ALREADY HAVE. So frustrating. I wrote the developer with my problem and got no response. This was a really good app, Im sorry hes no longer supporting it and I wasted 5 bucks.
Registered and activated it 4 times already, purchased from the app store and now every time I reboot I have to import the license from the app store… really not happy with this poor process of activation.
The app itself WAS great… When I could launch it. Because of some OS X update, theyre updating this app outside of the app store. Totally fine… The app store has too many restrictions, I get that. But they still want you to use the app store version to verify the license in order to use their "own" version (downloaded directly from their site). Not ideal but ok… Unfortunately, its not working for me. Ill spare you the details but basically: Im locked out of the app. Stuff happens, its all good… BUT… I tried contacting support in order to resolve the issue about a week ago and I didnt get ANY response. I now have to find a replacement app and move over all my shortcuts. Dont wast your money!
Does not work with El Capitan AND no response from support. Read thru suggestions on the website and tried to download special version, but could not successfully transfer serial number. No response despite several emails to support. Waste of $5USD
For me, its been working fine in El Capitan, as it did in several predecessors. Really a bargain for the price.
Doesn’t work with El Capitan as noted, but I’m unable to transfer my license because I can’t even get the app store version to install.
Trankynam’s instructions for how to install the new version of the app outside of the App Store (so that it actually works) and transfer your license from the Mac Appstore version you paid for to the version of the app downloaded directly from Trankynam’s site DO NOT WORK in a PERMANENT way. I’ve done the steps, and yes they work. But every couple months somehow it forgets that I’ve previously done the license transfer steps, pops up a “Trial Expired” box, and I have to do the license transfer steps all over again! Very irritating when I paid for the software! I’ve contacted Trankynam support about this problem three times and received ZERO RESPONSE. I would like to recommend the aText software, but I cannot recommend doing business with Trankynam.
