aText doesn’t work (using El Capitan 10.11.4) - the shortcuts don’t do anything. Emailed Support and still haven’t gotten a response. Awesome.

I never leave reviews. But this software has NEVER worked for me. I bought it 2 years ago, and every time I think hey I need a code snippet, I go try this thing thinking that maybe this time it will work. I’ve had it and am uninstalling it, and going to go drop 30 bucks on TextExpander just to avoid this horrible software.
Like all current reviewers, aText stopped working when I (unwisely) switched to El Capitan. I have not had luck with negotiating a transition to the compatible form from the developers website and don’t want to waste more time on it. Is there an alternative?
This software is no longer supported; when you try to contact the developer, you won’t get a response. The developer’s last entry on Facebook dates back to October 2015 and states: "Unfortunately aText Mac App Store version does not work on OSX 10.11 El Capitan. This is not fixable. aText full version (not sandboxed) still works with OSX 10.11 El Capitan.” I have the full version, but have run into problems on El Cap. Several e-mails to the developer have gone unanswered; the developer also doesn’t appear to respond anymore on his Facebook and Twitter feeds. This used to be a great, affordable alternative to the likes of Typinator or Text Expander, but no more (hence only two stars). Apple should remove this software from the App store.
aText is a great application that worked reliably for me in Yosemite. When I upgraded to El Capitan, it stopped working. I was disappointed, because I use it daily. Instead of whining about it, I Googled “aText El Capitan”. I read the technical suppport page, and there was a YouTube video showing how to fix it. I’m so much happier now that I fixed my problem instead of complaining uselessly about it in an application review.
Purchase from their website instead of Mac App store. Why? The MAS version does not work. If you have purchased from the MAS, and already have that version installed, go to their website and download the trial. From there, quit atext if it’s open. Then open the downloaded version from your desktop. atext will inform you that your license has been transferred, then ask you if you want to move the application to /Applications. Say yes. Afterwards you should be good to go. -3 stars for this very complicated, convoluted process. As of this review, the MAS version was last updated 4/13/2015 while the version on their website was updated 11/9/2015. Use the latest version.
